Once the alcoholic patient has sobered up and recovered physically, he is faced with a more prolonged and difficult task:  the rehabilitation and rebuilding of the person.  In my experience, this is what is achieved in A.A. groups.  These groups help the alcoholic to acquire greater knowledge of his disorder and accept abstinence as the only way.  They give him the opportunity to share and compare his experiences with those of his fellow members, who are always willing to help him with the lesson of humility, the recognition of his powerlessness over alcohol...
